Paid Vs Free Blogging....

Or my alternative title Who the fuck cares !

Can I just tell you I am so over the whole debate that's going around the blogverse about how we should all be charging a fee for reviews , and I'm sick of hearing you should because it won't feed your kids or your worth more than that ,well i would like to say FUCK ! STOP ! what if Some people enjoy doing it for free ?I know I do ,what if i dint need it to feed my children ? Well I don't because I'm lucky and my husband provides for all of us .

A few weeks ago I accepted a review plus a giveaway and I started to feel all self conscious almost like i was uncomfortable in my own home because I chose to do it for free, and then I remembered, My blog My rules and so I will do it as will I do anything else I chose and it will be with pride because I have realized I don't need to make anyone else happy nor do I care if I'm not very well liked for my decision , don't get me wrong sometimes I get paid fir things and sometimes I don't but ultimately thats my choice and no one else's to be forced upon me !

It's like anything in life some people are tall and some are short ,some are fat and some are thin ,some wear glasses while others don't .my point is everyone is different if we were all the same the world would be a very a very boring crappy place , some people need that extra income and I respect that and if you are getting paid for what you do then great more power to ya , but for the little blogs like me who enjoys what I do and how I do it please Don't push your opinions on me as I do not care .

amen sister!! there are SO many posts floating around at minute debating this subject and just as many from bloggers justifying why they take payment, adverts etc and i'm a little over it.

i read blogs for the connection to the blogger, not products, not pr, not advertising agencies - so yeah if you post a sponsored post, product review etc i'm probably going to click right past it but so what? no one is going to like EVERYTHING you blog about.

so well said.

Great post, Erin. I say each to their own.

I have no problem with bloggers doing product reviews and giveaways for free. Big corporations know that value of bloggers and their readership so if they can get away with throwing some product in the blogger's direction for permanent advertising, then of course, they are going to take advantage of it.

Bloggers need to realise their worth.

Like Tina said - each to their own. Some of us have aspirations to make a living from our blogs, while others don't.

I still believe that space on our blogs is valuable. Our time is valuable, too, and we should probably choose to use it doing things we like. Some reviews ARE fun to do... Others aren't.

Heehee, love the ranty pants :D I do them for free, which is why I choose what I actually like/want/need. I won't do something for the sake of a free product.

Ooh - I love snarky you! I agree with you. In truth I feel like since March (the Bloggers conference) there has been so much talk about Branding and marketing and PR and reviews and debate about it all I'm so over all of it.

Part of me wants to say screw it. I think what I want is to improve my numbers, make a kickass media kit and do no advertising other than small sidebar ads for small businesses.

Am getting tired of all of the other crap and the angst that comes with it.

(Unless it's reviewing books. I'd be all over that like white on rice!)

I do heaps of giveaways for free and love it. Sometimes I ask for money and sometimes I don't. Depends what mood I am in and how much work is involved. It really is a personal thing and I think it should all be about having fun. N x

Hmmm, I wonder about this...I'm probably going to start doing reviews and giveaways purely because I'd like the opportunity to connect more..with readers and with companies.

I do not want to be paid, and I do not want to advertise on my blog. I don't like seeing heaps and heaps of adds on a blog, for me it takes away the pleasure of reading the blog itself xo

well said Erin! Each to their own. I am happy to receive the product to review to do my giveaways. I don't feel the need to be paid as well. I am a social blogger, not looking for any income from it. I would never criticise anyone for being paid or not being paid for blogging.

In all honesty, I have NEVER been paid to do much as I would love to get paid, but I don't mind getting free products. The way I see it is - I'm building my blog - I'm small - so getting stuff I don't have to pay for or wouldn't otherwise purchase is a bonus in itself I guess. I do get self conscious too when I do reviews for free, but I've decided - my blog my rules. xx
